Final Artist Statement: My final works aim to explore the intersection of surrealism and glitch art, where I transform surreal landscapes into further dreamlike visions distorted by digital "imperfections" or glitches. In these landscapes glitches act, per usual, as agents of disruption, adding to the surreal feeling of the images and gifs. I found that I liked the TextEdit glitch and gifs the most so that is mainly what I did for the final images, altering AI generated images through different glitching techniques. I really enjoy how the introduction of a glitch can alter so much, including color, layout, perspective, etc. I also really liked how the process of manipulating the visual landscapes almost mirrors how the subconscious distorts reality in surrealist art. Each glitch is unpredictable yet through these "errors" new and unique images are produced, another similarity to how surrealism pushes the limits of perception. What was challenging for me was allowing the glitch to retain its organic feel without overwhelming the composition. But through trial and error, I found a balance between digital chaos and visual coherence. It helped me embrace imperfections because in this case, they worked to bring out uncanny, dreamlike qualities that I actually really enjoy. Because I mainly did TextEdit glitches, I found it so interesting how changing even the tiniest bit of coding can change so much of the image and I hope I can figure out more techniques for this type of digital art in the future.
